VIGAN, Ilocos Sur

The word Vigan, derived from ‘Biga’, a gigantic native taro plant that grows abundantly along the river banks of Meztizo. It is the capital city of Ilocos Sur. Almost 400km away from Manila located on the West Coast of Luzon. 

Here travelers can see the precious remnants of old architecture of Spaniards. 16th century, Vigan was established, the best preserved example of a planned Spanish colonial town in great Asia accompanying an extraordinary European culture.


Travelers can visit Vigan for experiencing great enjoyment during summer time. Anyone can visit different and various museum here which assigned to each Filipino hero, that were grown in this memorable place. Vigan is the oldest unique and antique Spanish colonial City in the country. 


Travelers’ can see here the Old Vigan Colonial Houses- the oldest and ancestral houses mostly owned by rich and powerful Chinese traders. It can be found in lined side by side along the Crisologo Street, also known as Calle Crisologo. Made up of thick bricks walls and plastering with clay, and even the tiled roofs are survived in many and strong earthquakes.

Here also can be found the oldest catholic cathedrals such as St. Paul’s Cathedral was built by Augustinians early as 1790-1800AD, as we consider that a long time ago but still, the walls on its interior is well-preserved. Here’s also the Memorable Palace, they called as, Palacio de Arzobispado was built in 1783, and it was the official  residence of the Arcbishop of 

Nueva Segovia. Included in the palace is the Museo Nueva Segovia with a collection of paintings, manuscripts and religious articles accumulated through the centuries. The palace was once the headquarters of Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo. Traveler will experience a great old style of living.
